A letter from the Church Organist…

The information in this section of the Church Music web site is provided to assist you in choosing music for your wedding at St. Peter and St. Paul, Tring, and making sure that all the necessary arrangements, musically speaking, are made. There is lots more information about weddings in general on the main Parish web site.

The Music Suggestions page contains information on many popular music choices for weddings and gives you the opportunity to hear the music for most of them. These recordings are made in St. Peter and St. Paul’s church in order to give you a realistic impression of how they would sound at your wedding. The music items are provided only as suggestions, I am happy to discuss and accommodate other choices where practical. Most people find that they can finalise all their choices from this information, but if you would like to meet me do discuss your wedding music I am more than happy to do so. I normally arrange to meet to discuss wedding music on Friday evenings, please call to make a suitable appointment.

You may have musical friends or family members that you would like to perform at your wedding, generally during the signing of the registers. I am happy, in principle, to provide accompaniment for these if required, but they will generally need to provide the organ (or piano) music as well as their own (no photocopies please) and they will need to be available for rehearsal with me before the wedding day.

If you wish to use your own organist or other musicians to perform the music at your wedding instead of the Church Organist then the Organist’s fee is technically still payable. Please contact me to discuss this.

It is normally possible for you to have the church choir to sing at your wedding, but not during the school summer holidays, and it may also prove difficult during other school holidays and public holiday weekends. The sooner I know you would like a choir the better. There will generally be eight or so singers, and they will be happy to sing an item during the signing of the registers if you wish.

Please note that if you wish to make any recording of any music performed by the Organist or Choir you must obtain permission for this in advance and pay the appropriate fee. Making any recording without this permission is actually against the law (including informal recordings made on mobile phones for example).

Please contact me as soon as possible whether this be simply to give me your choices or to have a discussions or arrange to meet for a discussion. There is no particular timescale, but please make your choices and discuss them with me before getting your orders of service printed – there is nothing worse than finding out too late that there is a problem with hymn words not matching the music etc. If you would like me to check the proof of your order of service prior to printing I am more than happy to do so. I would also appreciate it if you would send me a final copy of your order of service at least one week before your wedding please.

When we have agreed the music I will send you a sheet showing all the details and fees applicable which I would ask you to sign and return to me together with your cheque as soon as possible.

Kind regards,

Cliff Brown
