Operating Procedures - COVID-19 Preventative Measures


These Operating Procedures are effective from September 2020 until further notice in relation to the resumption of choir activities following the partial lifting of COVID-19 restrictions on church choirs. The procedures are based on the C of E Recovery Group "Model B" and the COVID-19 Guidance on Singing in Church from the Royal School of Church Music.

At their first choir attendance (for rehearsal or service) each choir member must collect …
  • Their own robes from the Emmy Hobbs room
  • Their own hymn book from the music trolley
  • Their own music folder from the box
… and these must be taken away out of the church and only brought into church when being used
Procedures applicable to all rehearsals and services …
  • Enter and leave the church using the main South door (the servers' vestry entrance is not to be used)
  • Hands to be sanitised on entry to the church and exit from the church
  • Sit in one of the positions in the choir stalls marked "Choir Member" [click here to access the seating plan] or otherwise as directed for special services
  • The Choir Director will record member attendance in the choir register
  • Water bottles, if required, must be brought in and taken away afterwards
  • No items to be shared between choir members, for example:
  • No lending / borrowing of items such as pencils, erasers etc
  • No shared music copies
Procedures applicable to rehearsals only …
The following apply in addition to the procedures applicable to all rehearsals and services as above:
  • Choir rehearsals will:
  • Take place as per the choir calendar
  • Only take place when there are sufficient choir members available to make rehearsal meaningful and practical
  • Commence at 7:30pm and last for no longer than one hour
  • Hymn Books and Music Folders (to include a pencil) to be brought in for the rehearsal and taken away afterwards
  • Masks to be worn when entering the church and kept on until the rehearsal actually starts
  • Masks to be put back on as soon as the rehearsal finishes and kept on until outside the church
Procedures applicable to services only …
The following apply in addition to the procedures applicable to all rehearsals and services as above:
  • The choir will sing at the 10am services of the first, third, fourth and fifth Sundays of each month unless there are insufficient choir members available to form a choir
  • Any requirement for the choir to sing at additional services will be communicated to members by email when necessary and listed in the choir diary
  • Choir members must book their service attendance using the "RSVP" service on the church website
  • Robes to be brought in for the service and taken away afterwards
  • All music needed for the service to be brought in for the service and taken away afterwards
  • Masks to be worn at all times in the church except when actually singing
  • The Emmy Hobbs room may be used for robing, but by no more than two people at a time
  • Do not linger in the space below the Emmy Hobbs room
  • Assemble for processing as spread out as possible at the West end of the church
  • Process in single file with at least 1m spacing between each person
  • Recess in single file with at least 1m spacing between each person
  • The Emmy Hobbs room may be used for disrobing, but by no more than two people at a time
