A letter from the Church Organist…

The information in this section of the Church Music web site is provided to assist you in choosing music for your wedding at St. Peter and St. Paul, Tring, and making sure that all the necessary arrangements, musically speaking, are made.

The Music Suggestions page contains information on many popular music choices for weddings and gives you the opportunity to hear the music for most of them. These recordings are made in St. Peter and St. Paul’s church in order to give you a realistic impression of how they would sound at your wedding. The music items are provided only as suggestions, I am happy to discuss and accommodate other choices where practical. Most people find that they can finalise all their choices from this information, but if you would like to meet me do discuss your wedding music I am more than happy to do so. I normally arrange to meet to discuss wedding music on Friday evenings, please call to make a suitable appointment.

You may have musical friends or family members that you would like to perform at your wedding, generally during the signing of the registers. I am happy, in principle, to provide accompaniment for these if required, but they will generally need to provide the organ (or piano) music as well as their own (no photocopies please) and they will need to be available for rehearsal with me before the wedding day.

It is normally possible for you to have the church choir to sing at your wedding, but not during the school summer holidays, and it may also prove difficult during other school holidays and public holiday weekends. The sooner I know you would like a choir the better. There will generally be eight or so singers, and they will be happy to sing an item during the signing of the registers if you wish.

The fees are £75 for the organist and £50 for the choir. There are additional fees payable if you wish to make a sound or video recording of your wedding. Due to copyright restrictions any recordings made are only to be used for non-commercial purposes.

Please contact me as soon as possible whether this be simply to give me your choices or to have a discussions or arrange to meet for a discussion. There is no particular timescale, but please make your choices and discuss them with me before getting your orders of service printed – there is nothing worse than finding out too late that there is a problem with hymn words not matching the music etc.

When we have agreed the music I will send you a sheet showing all the details and fees applicable which I would ask you to sign and return to me together with your cheque as soon as possible. Please would you also send me a copy of your order of service at least one week before your wedding. The recording fees (if applicable) will be collected by the church with the rest of the church fees.

Kind regards,

Cliff Brown
